Co-conspirators – Box Of Frogs

It’s good when you find someone that you can work with. All of my clients have different needs, but one thing they all seem to have in common is the feeling that we’re in it together. For example, Box of Frogs is a client of mine that works mainly out of Manchester. To define their work borders on the impossible, they’re artists, social workers, and party organizers all rolled into one and they’re very good at what they do. Their client base is a who’s who of Local Governments in the North West. There requirements are just as diverse, everything from PC repair and advice on the latest productivity gadgets to social network setup and website management. Their requests usually come in the form of, ‘Hey, we’ve got this idea, is it possible, how do we do it.’ All very stream of conciousness. It’s at this point we’ll bang our heads together and come up with the best solution possible. It’s a fun way to work, complete with ups and downs…but we’re always in it together.

Archive Angel

Archive Angel is an Historical Research and Archive Consultancy Service for individual and corporate clients within Cumbria, Lancashire, Northumberland, Borders and surrounding areas. They needed a website that was easy to maintain and capable of growing as their business does. I was able to help Maxine decide on hosting options and the actual design and maintenance of the site. Together I feel we came up with a flexible and cost efficient site that serves as a great home on the web for Archive Angel.

Box of Frogs – ‘Ideal Homeless Shelter’

Here’s a quick video of a Second Life build that I completed on behalf of Box of Frogs. This was a small part of a larger project centred on the needs and opinions of homeless people in the North West.

The build took two days and culminated in a presentation to the council involved. It was build in collaboration with the folks at Box of Frogs who had compiled a loose specification based on interviews with their target groups.

Second Life is a lot of fun to work with and as a platform it’s extremely flexible. There’s a high learning curve, but the creative and collaborative possibilities can’t be beat.

Now this chap is on to something I think. I hate advertising, it’s so disingenuous. No one likes being talked down too, and no one likes being punched in the face. I think this is a good philosophy for the small business. Don’t try to emulate a bigger company, keep your advertising simple and down to earth. That’s one of the advantages you have over ‘The Man’.
